Our Story
nenos was founded as a for-profit LLC in 2021 because we wanted to build better social media. We were tired of social media feeling like a chore, rather than something that bought us joy. We were also disappointed in the direction they took, exploiting content creators at the expense of their privacy and mental health. However, we soon realized that it would be impossible to create profitable and ethical social media without a pay wall. In 2024, we took a nearly unprecedented approach: nenos reorganized as a 501(c)(3) corporation and joined an incredibly small group of nonprofit social media organizations throughout the entire world.

Our newsfeed and prospective algorithm preference local, community content from people you know before showing popular or interesting content. The result? A dramatic decrease in the spread of misinformation and a more efficient moderation system that naturally catches problematic content before it goes viral.
Fair Practices for All
Big tech companies are under congressional investigation for antitrust violations. They’ve accumulated a lot of power that can result in harm to consumers and small businesses. We’re committed to fair, healthy competition on our platform and will welcome businesses and organizations of all sizes.
Supporting Our Community
We commit to supporting businesses of all sizes and providing them with the tools they need to grow and succeed in an ever-changing world and prioritizing democratic principles by prohibiting political advertising, creating space for truth-based content, and shielding our creators from malicious influence.
Protecting Our Community
We commit to protecting the privacy and data of our creators against criminal activity, being good stewards of the information that they share, and defending political activity and identity across the spectrum, while also ensuring that misinformation and harmful or hateful content is quickly removed.
