Announcing nenos 2.2 Update

Spring is in the air — and so are updates! We are excited to announce the release of nenos 2.2, the next major update to the social media platform.

This release includes redesigned profile headers, easier access to direct messaging, better post creation tools, and (finally) personalized feeds. The update also includes critical bug fixes.

New Features & Changes

PROFILE DESIGN REFRESH

Your profile photo has never looked better, because now it's shown big and bold next to your name, pronouns, bio and tag. Starting today, you can view and manage who you're following. And, you'll now be able to DM your mutuals directly from their profile (instead of heading into the messages screen). You also have more control over what's shown on your profile; optionally hide your tags and pronouns at any time.

PERSONALIZED FEED

We're beginning to roll out personalized feeds in this update. You'll soon see posts only from people you follow, in chronological order. To continue seeing posts from others you may know, make sure to give them a follow!

NEW CREATE TOOLS

Jump right into the camera when you tap on the "Create" tab. You'll be able to quickly snap a photo and share it with your friends and family. Drag your finger up or down to zoom in and out. Double tap to flip the camera.

You can now, optionally, add locations to your posts. To add a location, simply select "Location" and search for a nearby place while you're editing your post. Once uploaded, others will be able to see the place you selected and get more information about that place.

DATA MANAGEMENT

Running low on space? Open "Settings" from your profile and scroll down to "Cache Management." From here you'll be able to see how much storage nenos is taking up on your device, as well as set limits on how much storage nenos should use. And, if you need to clear things out, choose "Reset Cache" to free up some space.

Additional Technical Notes

  • Fixes for sign up issues

    • Sign ups should complete and succeed much more reliably now.

    • You can no longer select a birth date in the future, or before the current date minus 125 years.

    • If your sign up attempt fails for any reason, you’ll be given the opportunity to contact support, retry, or reset the app (to try again).

  • Better dark mode support

    • Fixed issues where some labels could not be read in dark mode.

  • Fixed profile photo caching issue where your profile photo may not have appeared to be updated after uploading it successfully.

  • Improved pull to refresh. Pull down to refresh your feed, posts, profiles, and follower / following lists. The previous version was somewhat unreliable and didn’t conform to accessibility standards.

  • Improved caching; content is cached more reliably, and as a result posts and profiles load faster.

    • Cache size is calculated accurately and shown in settings. Users can optionally reset the cache to free up storage on their device, or to resolve issues with content loading.

  • Profile tags are more rounded and less prominent.

  • Archived posts can be accessed from the “Archive” menu on your profile (although archiving posts is not yet available).

  • Personalized feeds will begin appearing after a user has followed at least 1 other person, and the followed account(s) has / have posted at least 5 posts.
