How (And Why) We’ll Be Ad-Free
The Case for Change
While many of us can remember a time when our social media feeds weren’t full of sponsored ads, this isn’t the reality today. These companies rely on advertising for much of their revenue, and that is because it’s great at making a profit. But is it a good thing for everyone else?
To make an effective ad, you need as much information about the people that create on the platform that you can get. By doing this, social media platforms can hyper-target audiences and other companies get as much bang for their buck as possible. Unfortunately, this means that platforms have become addictive to ensure that people stay on them as much as possible: every swipe, like, or follow you make is used for profit.
We think this is wrong. We don’t want to profit from exploitative and addictive algorithms that are designed to keep you on the platform as much as possible—that just isn’t in our business model, and we want nenos to be an agent for good in the industry.
So… how do we plan on being ad-free?
You Can Monetize Your Content
We believe in empowering our creators by giving them the tools to not only design and post unique content—whether it be photos, audio, written or video—but also allowing others to subscribe to the content they produce.
Our goal is a platform where creators don’t have to rely on sponsorship deals to make money, and for anyone who is a creator to build their own subscription bases.
Everyone on the nenos platform will have a public page that is available for anyone to follow. However, creators will also be able to designate a private page where they can post subscriber-only content, such as art lessons, physical training videos, yoga sessions, and so much more, and they can determine monthly or annual pricing and special deals.
We will receive a small portion of each subscription fee to help maintain and develop the platform, and moderation standards will be adjusted between public and private pages to provide more artistic freedom and flexibility for creators and their subscribers.
By integrating subscription-based revenue models with a streamlined social media experience, we believe that nenos will be a socially-good platform that doesn’t rely on ads for profit. We will be positioned to support all of our creators and promote a healthy online experience for everyone.
